How to Get Bits on Twitch - Start Cheering Right Away

In 2016, Twitch unveiled its own digital currency that viewers can use to encourage and show support for streamers. Thanks to Twitch Bits, streamers get to set up tip jars, allowing those using the platform to compensate them for their content creation efforts through microtransactions. Unlike a Twitch donation, Bits are “cheered” and not donated. In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Bits and, of course, help you figure out how to get Bits on Twitch.

The Wondrous World of Bits

Livestreaming became one of the most popular entertainment options in recent years, and Twitch found itself at the heart of the streaming market. Viewers are watching millions of hours of content every month, and the platform is constantly evolving. Meanwhile, the increasingly advanced streaming tools and accessories are making everything look more professional.

That’s why fans of a specific streaming channel or an individual streamer have the power to acknowledge and reward the hard work with Bits.

So what exactly are Bits on Twitch? In addition to serving as an in-stream currency to support content creators, Bits can also be used to get attention in a chat with animated emoticons. Moreover, viewers can use them to get acknowledgments from streamers through badges and leaderboards or unlock loot during exclusive esports events.

It’s also worth noting that finding people on Twitch is remarkably easy with the platform’s search bar in the left-hand navigation section.

What Are the Requirements

Viewers can acquire Twitch Bits for free by watching online ads. But most people purchase them through Twitch’s platform on both desktop and mobile. Meanwhile, streamers can only receive Bits if they are Twitch Partners or Twitch Affiliates. Once they become part of these programs, figuring out how to accept Bits on Twitch is straightforward.

To be a Twitch Partner, streamers have to stream at least 25 hours spread over at least 12 days within 30 days and get an average of 75 viewers or more. Once all requirements are met, streamers will receive a Path to Partner achievement and can apply to be a part of the program.

Future Twitch Affiliates need to stream at least eight hours spread across a minimum of seven days within a 30-day period. They also need 50 followers or more and an average of three viewers. Achieving this will unlock Path to Affiliate, enabling streamers to apply for the affiliate program. This brings us to another commonly asked question: how long do you have to wait to get Bits on Twitch? The platform has its own system in place, which requires at least $100 in earnings before users can receive their payouts.

Creator Dashboard

Partners and affiliates can click on their profile icon in the upper-right corner and select Creator Dashboard from the menu. Click on the Partner Settings and select Cheer to activate Bits if you’ve fulfilled all of the Twitch Partner requirements. Otherwise, click on the Channel button and choose Cheer to enable Twitch Bits. With cheering, eligible streamers will accept Bits from their viewers. Cheering should be activated by default. Streamers who manage to show their love for a specific topic with the help of a gaming microphone earn well from Bits.

Paying to Cheer

When cheering on Twitch and rewarding the streamers, each cheer Bit is the equivalent of one cent. In other words, streamers can convert Bits to dollars at a rate of $1 for every 100 Bits. Viewers can buy Bits in packages at the following prices:

  • 100 Bits - $1.68
  • 500 Bits - $8.40
  • 1,500 Bits - 23.94 (5% discount)
  • 5,000 - $77.28 (8% discount)
  • 10,000 - $151.20 (10% discount)
  • 25,000 - $369.60 (12% discount)

You have two options if you’re trying to figure out how to get Bits on Twitch using cash. One is with a Get Bits button located on the platform’s upper-right corner. Another method is via the Bits icon on the right side of the chat window, next to the Emoticon button.

You can buy Bits in packages or bundles, and the supported Twitch payout methods are PayPal and Amazon Pay. The maximum number of Bits you can have in your account inventory is 250,000. The maximum number you can buy daily is 500,000 Bits.

How to Get Free Bits on Twitch

There are ways to obtain Bits for free that both US viewers and streamers can use. Aside from watching ads, you can do surveys on Twitch’s website using both desktop and mobile devices. But accumulating Bits through these methods takes time, and you shouldn’t expect the same level of excitement from watching ads that you’d get from streamers using RTX 2080 Graphics cards.

If you’re browsing Twitch from a desktop computer, make sure your ad-blocker extensions are deactivated in a browser. All smartphone users have to do is start the Twitch app.

Watch and Earn

Regardless of whether you’re using mobile or desktop, the following steps apply. Users get Bits by watching ads on channels where streamers accept Bits. When the channel loads, check for a diamond-shaped cheering icon in the chat window, which is located in the bottom-right corner. If you don’t see the icon, that means the streamer does not or cannot accept Bits.

Watch and Earn

Click on the diamond-shaped icon to open the Bits menu, and at the bottom of the page, you’ll see the Get Bits button. Clicking on it allows users to watch Twitch Bits ads.

Twitch Ads

Select it and watch the entire video ad, after which you’ll usually get 5 to 10 Bits added to your account. You can get up to 100 Bits for watching an ad. Sometimes, you’ll be asked to fill a survey instead of watching an ad for free Bits. Remember that you may click a limited number of times on the Watch Ad button per day.

Another important piece of information for those who want to know how to watch ads to get Bits on Twitch relates to reports that Twitch resets ad-watching counters at midnight PST. So this might be an ideal time to watch ads on Twitch. Note that this option isn’t available in all countries.

Leave Your Input

The second way to earn free Bits is to participate in TwitchRPG (Research Power Group) surveys. These surveys primarily focus on getting input from streamers and viewers on how to enhance Twitch features and improve the service.

Leave Your Input

Not all users who participate in these surveys get the reward. Only the quickest ones receive 500 Twitch Bits for free. You have to sign up for TwitchRPG with a valid email, after which you’ll get notifications about upcoming surveys with free Bits.

Cheering Is Caring

After covering multiple avenues on how to get Bits on Twitch, it’s time to touch on usage. That’s where cheering comes in. Cheers are an engaging way of supporting your favorite streamer as you participate in the chat.

When you decide to Twitch Cheer, type “cheer” in the chat window along with the number of Bits that you wish to use. For example, if you type in “Cheer1000” and press Enter, the steamer will see that message and be rewarded with 1000 Bits. If you make a mistake while typing, you have five seconds to click cancel before your message shows up in the chat log.

Our guide on how to cheer with Bits wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t mention Cheermotes. Once you click the Bits icon in the chat window, you’ll see a list of available custom-made emotes and the cost of using them in Bits.

There’s a limit on how many Bits you can use in a single chat message or a Cheer. The ceiling is “cheer10000”, but you can use several Bit emotes to insert more than 10,000 Bits in a message. The total number of Bits you can use per message is 100,000.

Bit’s Always Sunny on Twitch

By now, you should have all the knowledge you need on how to get Twitch Bits. It’s a fun way to reward streamers you follow and a source of income for streamers that they can use to improve the quality of their content.
