—I’ve had it 4 days, used it every morning and a few times in between. I took it to the clinic today to compare. This device, using the three test average method: Systolic was 3 points higher than clinic, lower number was 4 points higher. That is quite good for a relatively inexpensive home monitor.
—Easy to put it on my arm without assistance
—It’s all contained in a single, small device attached to the cuff, instead of having some bulky monitor machine around. Thus easy to slip in a purse or pack for travel.
—USB rechargeable, instead of regular batteries
—14.5 in circumference arm fits comfortably with room to spare
IOS APPLICATION review- included because the usefulness of the app that goes with the device is critical for full functionality and value of this purchase.
PROS
—Updates the app dynamically when I start the app near the device… or maybe via the cloud…
—App has a simple interface for viewing the BP data
—App dynamically updates the IOS Health app, populating the BP information. I turned off the HR synch from this device because I synch with my fitbit instead.
—You can produce a report and send it to your email box (instead of ‘the doctor’ designated in the app), which is sent both in text and a cvs file. Though a more concise, readable list is to simply look at the data view and take a screen shot.
CONS
—The IOS version of the app that goes with this device does NOT update the weight daily from the Health app, so after the first set of data is populated I have to enter the weight daily, manually. I have found references to this issue and steps to uninstall, reinstall etc. Not going to do it!
—The app is either counting steps itself via phone, or using the Health app to count steps, even though I have designated Fitbit as my source for steps in the Health app…. So that’s a pain. I ignore step data in this app as a result. Who carries their phone EVERYWHERE 24 hours a day in order to count steps??
—The app doesn't have a lot of features, like change the graph type or analyze trends etc.
—The app doesn’t keep the three separate values used for the averaged reading. I’d like that data to be kept and viewable
—the main BP graphic chart has a single line to represent both systolic and diastolic… The view in Apple health app is better, separating the two. Much easier view in Apple health.
Though the app that goes with this device needs some work, the device itself is easy to use, accurate within expected limits, and portable.
However Withings got recommended for their smart scale to me, so I decided to keep all the devices in the ecosystem they had, as the BP monitor also came highly recommended on several review sites. I can say that it might be the simplest health device I have ever worked with once it was setup. I'll try to summarize similar to my withings scale review.
1. Simplicity is king here. This BP monitor does take a short time to setup and configure for phone/app/wifi integration, but it isn't overly long or difficult. I'd say beetween 5-10 minutes in my case was about where I was, but I also was setting up the scale, so I added some difficulty by swapping back and forth. The monitor has 1-button to start/stop/configure the testing methodology. You can control additional settings through the phone app and its fantastically simple. The charging is through a single micro-usb and generally 1 charge has lasted forever. I originally only charged it to 60% and it easily lasted for months before I even considered recharging and this was with at least 1-daily use.
2. The device feels pretty high-quality when handling it. The band/materials don't feel like they will rip, break or become worn in any way. This is great, as I have seen some older BP monitors (digital and otherwise) have issues with the cuff fraying in the past. I'm 3 months in and its had absolutely 0 wear and tear from daily use.
3. The modes are a little hard to understand at first. Initially the device is set to a single BP monitor, and you have to long press the single button to enable the advanced BP taking mode which averages 3 separate bp tests. You can also control the time between tests with the mobile app on your phone, (5/10/30/60 seconds between the 3 tests etc). I found the single test, while good, was often fairly wild in the numbers it produced and usually for me a second test would generally be a closer number, so I've been using the advanced 3-BP test mode to ensure I get a good average.
4. Software integration is PERFECT... Withings just nailed the overall mechanisms for tracking the vitals here, and this is no different from the withings scale experience either. Everything, once setup with phone/wifi, just works.... it all transits back to the phone and I can see a great set of daily/weekly/month metrics for my BP, weight, water, fat, etc etc... This has been helpful for me to produce reports from for my doctor and I who are tracking my overall vitals for BP.
Overall I'd highly recommend the withings series of products for consideration if you want a high-quality/simple experience to manage your overall health monitoring. I've been nothing but ecstatic with the results so far. Would recommend to anyone to consider this BP monitor for its accuracy, software integrations and high quality materials.

What they do not tell you in the sales pitch is that you cannot use this device standalone straight from the box. The device MUST first be ‘setup’ via a smartphone. To do this you MUST download their APP to the phone then create a Withings account with some personal information (in order to create profiles for each person who is to use this device) on their USA server to which the device, via the smartphone may upload your data if you sync/pair the device to your phone. However, in order to create an account you must also agree to the following; “(*) I consent to Withings processing my personal data including body metrics data as detailed in the privacy policy”.
Now the USA is not covered by the UK Data Protection Act and do you want to trust a US company with your personal medical and other data? Think of the likes of other USA based companies such as, to name but a few; Microsoft, Facebook, Google and sadly even Amazon and the data they collect and use :(
In the end what I did was to setup a dummy email address and used it to create a dummy Withings account just to get the device initialised. One can then read the data straight from the device display without needing to ‘pair’ it to synchronise the data each time. I may then kill the Withings account and delete the phone app and continue to use the device standalone. I have emailed Withings with my concerns that it is not possible to use this device standalone straight from the box without agreeing to their ridiculous policies. But as yet no reply, well there is a surprise!!!
The device itself is not the problem, seems well built and works well. But it is their methodology of use :( and that it seems not possible to use it standalone straight from the box that is definitely an issue to those of us who wish to maintain control and security over OUR personal information !!!
So whilst I would give a 5star rating for the device itself, because of the issues described above, I have only given it a 1star rating for their lack of transparency when describing the device.
