These speakers are good. Bass is deep from a full range perspective, but keep in mind, these are not subs. Therefore, these are not boneshaking, but you do hear the full bass spectrum if you equalize the sound correctly
Once you learn to set them up correctly, the problems of the lights coming back on by themselves goes away. The party chain is simple if you read the directions. I've connected two XB60s and two XB31s and the surround sound is amazing. The 31s bring out good mids and highs, but the crisp "ting" of cymbal and "tick" of the hi-hat are a bit subdued on the 60s. You will get popping and sync issues if you have a weak signal on your phone's network connection...but it is not the speaker causing this! Battery life is good, but you should keep them charged. You can turn of the voice "please charge" warnings in the apo. If you keep the speaker in BT standby mode, they are automatically activated whenever you play your music.
I do not recommend auto standby mode if you want to keep your party mode active. Auto standby will power the speaker down after 15 minutes of no activity, breaking the chain. Then you will have to chain them all over again. To activate the chain, all speakers must be no more than three feet apart as you press the party chain buttons on each, then you can move the where you want. So this can be a pain.
For the best sound I recommend you download a third party equalizer app. The EQ that comes in the Sony app does not appear to change any sound condition. I immediately heard a change with another app.
Lastly, the light show works really nice in a dark room, and you can turn them off or deactivate the strobe with the app. You can also set different light moods, and they do appear to react somewhat to the music. And, you can answer the phone by pressing a button on whatever speaker is set up as the "master" in the chain.
Oh! I almost forgot. There is a phone cradle on the top and a USB input to charge your phone on the back--it's a pretty handy idea! And the DJ fiestable app can be a lot of fun.
