Sound with these is another one of it's strong points. Initially, it is a little bland with the neutral sound signature. The bass is very light and the highs are slightly elevated. It doesn't make listening to music too exciting, until I downloaded the Shure Play app and applied their bass boost preset. With that preset the missing bass booms in your ears. The bass is tight and punchy without becoming muddy like some other "bass boosted" headphones do. Honestly, with this preset alone I found music a lot more fun to listen to and I enjoyed wearing these a lot more. The only thing that would of been better to see is a deeper more rich bass, but for the tiny driver in these the bass it puts out is still quite impressive.
The other thing I like about these headphones is that it comes with quality foam tips which tend to be pricey upgrades on their own. Usually most earbuds I've gotten come with the standard set of silicone tip. You get those as well in the box if you prefer them, but I like the foam tips it comes with. Saves a good chunk of change not having to buy foam tips from companies like Comply. The case also charges with a standard USB type-c cable which is nice to see as well. When I unpacked these, the case had one charge left and it took 2 hours to charge it up to full. Even though the charge time is quite long, I don't mind it too much because the battery life is really good. I've been using these consistently for the past few weeks and I've only had to charge in once. I will almost have to charge it again too, but it's nice to use these to exercise and general house work without worrying about the battery or sweat ruining them.
While these earphones are very impressive, there is some downsides to them. The first for me is the case because it is not very pocketable. I am a male and luckily my jeans have large pockets. The charging case will fit in my pockets, but it is not enjoyable to do so. The case is just so bulky that it is not comfortable. Most of the time, I just carried the earphones themselves and left the case at home. Putting the buds back into the case is also not as simple or easy as a pair of airpods. With those you could do it with your eyes closed, but with these you need to be paying attention. I've tried doing it in the dark and I just have to turn on a light to make sure they are oriented properly.
The other issue I have with these is the volume. I typically don't listen to things very loud as I worry about hearing damage. With these the lowest volume is still too loud for my tastes. The lowest volume is pretty much the only volume I ever used it at. It is plenty loud to listen to music enjoyably while doing other activities. It would be nice if the volume could go lower so I can listen to music while going to sleep. Otherwise, it feels like I'm at a night club and that makes sleeping just a little bit difficult.
The last problem I've had is minor, but weird connectivity issues. There have been times where I take these out of the case and it says the earphones are in pairing mode before letting me know they connected to my phone. I only had this happen a few times. The other issue is where the signal has started cutting out even though my phone is in my pocket next to me. Usually it is just one of the buds, but I've had it happen on both. Thankfully, these go away after a few minutes, but it is still odd.
Overall, I really enjoy these earphones from Shure. The wireless design makes them incredibly convenient to use and I find myself listening to music a whole lot more while doing chores or exercise. They are comfortable to wear for me which is a rarity and the battery life is great. Sound quality is something I am very particulate about and these satisfy me well. The only downsides to them is the bulky case which could be more user friendly to use and the weird glitches I get sometimes when I turn these on. These are so close to being perfect for me, it's just the case that really brings it down.

## A quick note on the ear tips
A lot of people really like the ear tips that come with these headphones. I used them for quite some time and was very happy with them. After a while, the memory foam started to get really gross and firm, so I decided to research some new tips. Much to my surprise, I discovered that the beloved Klipsch oval eartips fit these buds perfectly! I quickly bought them and couldn't be happier. I can confidently say, at least for my ears, the Klipsch oval tips blow any of the stock tips out of the water. The seal is fantastic, and they're easy to put on. They dont get uncomfortable over long periods of time, and they dont try to push themselves out of your ear like the memory foam tips. They're literally perfect for me. I **highly, highly** recommend you give them a shot instead of the stock eartips.
## Durability
These headphones are made out of plastic, and doesn't contain a single piece of metal in the enclosure. Don't let this fool you, however, these headphones are amongst the most durable in-ear buds I've ever owned (far surpassing the Klipsch Image X10 and S4, as well as the Monster Turbines, which have an *all metal* enclosure and Monster Beats Tour). I don't treat these headphones kindly either. I never put them in their carrying case and I frequently wear them in rugged environments, such as mowing the grass (in 95º heat) and, as stated earlier, golf course maintenance. I have the clear model, which has a kevlar and mesh lined cable. Once again, this cable is by far the most durable I've ever seen. The cable that came with these headphones when I purchased them wore out very quickly, I think it was a lemon. In less than a month of daily use, I found the sound would short out momentarily at random times. Thankfully, these headphones feature removable cables (a feature which really shouldn't be overlooked), so I bought another one and it's been working perfectly ever since. Overall, if you're looking to buy a pair of headphones that will last for *years* on end, these headphones are definitely the right call.
## Design
I love the design of these headphones. I dont really have any complaints, so I apologize in advance if I sound overwhelmingly positive. A huge advantage of having earbuds that sit flush with your ears (and dont stick out like typical earbuds) is that you can sleep with them! It's so great being able to lay my head on a pillow and not feel any pressure in my ear canals. If you use earbuds in the house, this is really a feature that should not be overlooked. Furthermore, since these headphones sit flush with your ears, you can wear them in the rain with minimal risk of water touching the driver enclosures (let alone actually seeping inside). Lastly, the way the cable wraps above your ear makes it very difficult for cable tension alone to pull them out. This means that the buds can literally stay in for days without the usual cable sways slowly wiggling them out of your ears. It also means that if the cable catches something (like a door handle), the earbuds aren't likely to get yanked out (which is usually a pretty jarring experience). The only problem I have with the clear model in particular is that the right angle headphone jack doesn't fit cases very well. I dont have a high-profile case, just a thin TPU shell around my iPhone 6. Despite the fact that my case is thin, it was still too thick to plug these headphones in. The black cable seems to be designed for mobile devices, because it doesn't have these issues fitting my case.
If you plan on using these with a phone, I recommend you buy the black variant.
## Sound quality
Sound quality is highly subjective. What I think sounds good, others might think sounds like garbage. This is why I try to reduce the weight of sound quality in my reviews, and instead, focus on the factual, measurable parts of these headphones. Lets get this out of the way, these headphones are **not** balanced. They have a significant bias towards the lower frequencies: bass, but it can also turn some people off. Unlike some other bass-boosted headphones on the market, these headphones aren't a complete mess when you get to the higher end of the spectrum. Trebles are very clear, sharp, and precise. The trebles are very independent of the lower frequencies (high mids in particular), which is a great characteristic to see at this price point. I wish they were just a brighter (trebles should be louder), but its not a deal breaker, especially if you aren't a huge audio snob like I am. Shure always does a great job with their mids, and these headphones are no exception. They're very clear, controlled, and accurate. Sometimes, in very complex songs, the bass will run into the mids, causing things to sound muddier than they should, but its not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. These scenarios are generally few and far between.
Overall, I think a lot of people will be happy with the sound of these headphones. They have the bass-boosted emphasis of most modern headphones, however, it isn't overdone, and it doesn't come at the expense of the mids (in most scenarios) or the trebles. For $100, you're not going to get a perfect pair of headphones, but you can get one thats pretty damn good for most people. Unless you're a *serious* audio snob, or you listen *strictly* to spoken word audio, I highly recommend the Shure SE215 (in black). Seriously though, pick up a set of the Klipsch eartips while you're at it. You **will not** regret it.
As a side test I tried it for gaming as well and it does work pretty well for picking up foot-steps. The noise cancelling works really well.
These IEMs sound amazing compared to my iPhone earbuds. I’ve tried and returned several other (budget) pairs of IEMs but these have the best sound quality by far.
There’s also a (free) Shure EQ app, which I still haven’t figured out :-) and even a 51 minute video on YouTube called Shure webinar: What are equalizers and what are their types?
Everyone’s ear canals are different. Unfortunately, finding the right ear tips (sleeves) is a trial and error thing.
I’m not really fond of the way the main earpiece is supposed to sit a certain way in the ear, and I’m even less fond of the way the wires have to wrap behind the ear. It’s hard for me to get them positioned correctly, and they often get pulled out when I rake my hair out of my face, which is a pain in the butt. They sound really good though, so…

Box looked different, cheaper. The 4 replaceable earbuds that normally are fixed and facing up were just loose and all over the place. It says at the back that the impedance is 20 Ohms while it should be 17.
The pouch's material feels way cheaper than the other one I have and the shape is a bit wonky.
Leaflets normally come folded tidily with a clear elastic band, unlike these. The earphones themselves were missing holes on half the surface.
There were 4 spare earbuds instead of 6, and they came in a much cheaper envelope. The cleaning tool has scraps of plastic on and it's very different in size.
There is no CE symbol at the bottom either, instead there's a CC I've never seen before.

I would recommend purchasing from the official Shure website because the hassle of returning the counterfeit product and then purchasing another pair from Shure's website wasn't worth the £10 I should have saved purchasing from here. Don't get mugged off!
I adore the sound signature which is dark/warm (slight bass bump and rolled off treble) which is just perfect to my taste - I hate sound signatures which become sibilant, e.g. Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones (which I'm effectively replacing with this setup) really fatigue my ears with certain songs like Aruna - Save The Day Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Remix and have a V shape which does not agree with my ears in particular.
These are the kind of earphones that make me want to sit here and just listen to music all day and never get tired of it. Save The Day is so enjoyable to listen to for me now.
The reason I bought these was to replace the Noise Cancelling bluetooth headphones mentioned above and also because I wanted some in-ear monitors for exercising.
Highly recommended!
Aside from the sound, the build quality is excellent: I've had mine for nearly two years and put them through some serious use: mountain biking (including many a spill), commuting in foul weather, and long hours on train journeys. They still look and sound as good as new - no cable wear (I think they've used some sort of synthesised alligator-hide), and even the original foam tips are still pristine.
A real strength - and this applies across the Shure IEM range, as they all use the same design - is that these things will stay put, thanks to the over-the-ear design, meaning you're not having to constantly push them back into position when the cable catches on your collar or your jacket. It's a First World Problem, I know, but it's one that drives me mad with other in-ears.
Some reviewers quibble about the comfort and the fit, but I've never had an issue. It's just a question of finding the right buds (and they come with plenty to choose from); for my fairly small lug-holes, the medium-sized foam tips are snug, tight but not uncomfortable, and give great isolation. I can see that some specs-wearers might take exception to the over-the-ear cable design (and that's the only way they can be worn), but I wear thin-framed specs sometimes and I don't have a problem with them.
I've not tried the SE3-series or the SE4-series, but I have tried the SE535s - over three times the price of these, and not at all worth the extra money. They sound slightly better, but not *that* much better.
Again, as stated by other reviewers - and this goes for all in-ears - if you don't select the right buds, you won't get the best out of these. Be patient: burn the phones in for at least 24 hours before you judge them, and play around with the buds until you find the ones that fit best. Tip: with the foam buds, pinch them in before you put them in your ears, then let them expand for 10-20 seconds until they fill the outer ear canal and make a seal. You'll know when you've got it right, as they'll block out most of the ambient noise. If they get uncomfortable after a while, try a smaller size bud.
Sound quality: 4 stars (but 5 for the price you pay!)
Comfort and fit: 5 stars
Build quality: 6 stars :)
