This scooter caught my eye when it first came out, the design and tech and portability make it really cool. However, at over $700, the relatively short range, etc. just did NOT make it reasonable. When it came up on sale (around $400) I went for it and really liked it, but there were a few concerns that presented themselves right away:
1) Battery came 100% discharged upon arrival: I think Segway has been having a had time selling these at their regular price and thus they've likely had many sitting for a long time. This is NOT GOOD as a lithium battery should be stored at about 40% charge, and maintained. I was worried it was going to not hold a charge at all. It did, but I was still concerned going forward.
2) This scooter has very hard wheels and no suspension. Riding over even small cracks is bumpy. For those cities that allow/prefer you riding on sidewalks vs. the street, it will make for a rough ride.
3) I ran it only a couple times, but quite constantly at the max setting as it's not very fast and thus cruise set at max is really most likely what you will want to run it at. It would not charge immediately after, however: the light on the charge block not turning red instead of green. I couldn't figure it out but determined it must have to cool off as touching the back wheel assembly where the motor is felt super hot. It must have to cool down for quite some time before it will charge again as it did start to charge after a few minutes of running a fan over it.
Overall, if you like tech, design, and quick-folding ability - pulling it with the back wheel down is cool and handy - and you get it on a really good sale, you may want to go for it. Otherwise, understand it is a bumpy ride, the commute will need be short, and you may wait for it to cool to charge it after riding.
