Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

My 11 year old Brother multi-function finally gave up the ghost, so I'm amazed at how much faster printing, scanning, faxing, and copying are now. I'm especially pleased that this printer doesn't curl the output paper like Brother’s printers tend to.
One reviewer mentioned how the document feed tends to pull the paper a little crooked. This seems to be more of a problem with short stacks of paper, and is most likely the result of there being only one pinch roller in the middle of the paper path. It's less of a problem if the sheet guides are as close as possible, but that makes it more difficult to get the paper into the tray. This might be a non-starter for a small business, but I can live with it.
One other thing to watch out with the feeder: as usual with low end printers the feeder is a bit finicky about pulling sheets. It may not pull any or, if you push the originals a little much, it may pull multiple sheets.
This might not be the printer's problem, but scanning to or printing from a USB flash drive seems to be pretty slow. It is easy to use the USB drive, though, and navigating folders is simple. Printing from my PC though the USB input is fast, though.
No problem setting up the WiFi (for use with other devices).
The software package works just fine. The printer console is easy to use, but most if not all of that is available from the printer's touchscreen as well. I now have a problem deciding whether to use my Nuance PowerPDF software or the scanner software from HP. Need more time to make that decision.
Now for the big problem. HP's installer is rubbish. I have a fully updated Win8.1 PC, but HP's installer could run the MSI services. It took a chat session with 3 hours of remote desktop control to fix the problem. I didn't pay full attention to the whole process (took care of paperwork, read, drank iced tea, and whatever) but did notice at one point that the tech disabled regserv, which is rather alarming. I ran a full system check when we were done and everything seems fine, but this is ridiculous. Reminds me of the worst of UNIX makes. Don't know how common this problem is, but 3 hours for one printer is a lot of money no matter how little the techs get paid.
Pros:
1) fast at almost everything
2) paper loads in front and you can see how much paper is left
3) features work as advertised except for document feeder as noted above
4) backlit touchscreen easy to read in any light
Cons:
1) The touchscreen is a little bit non-responsive, but then my fingers don't work well with most touchscreens
2) document feeder misalignment
3) document feeder can grab multiple sheets
4) software installation
5) USB speed
I have it set up to print wirelessly from all my computers at home. You can also set up a special e-mail account - forward a message or attachment to that email address, and it prints on your printer, even if you're halfway around the world. (For security I set it up that only emails received from my own email account will print.) You can control scanning from your computer in Paint or a similar program (HP also has its own scanning software), or you can control scanning from the printer, and email you the scanned file as an attachment (pdf, jpg, a few other choices). Finally, there is also a fax option, though I haven't set that up.
At work we have a giant Xerox multifunction printer (the kind that's about as big as a stove). Of course that one's faster and has more options, but for a home or home office, this printer is more than enough to suit your needs.
The fix to this is to set the printer to use a static IP address outside of the router's DHCP range, and set its DNS to the following :
Preferred DNS Address: 209.244.0.3
Alternate DNS Address:209.244.0.4
After that, you restart the printer and that seems to have fixed the problem. See the link below for details:

I am an IT guy and it took me about an hour to research, configure and test it. I cannot imagine how long it would take a non-IT guy to get this done.
Edited six weeks after purchase:
Now the document feeder no longer works! It makes clicking noise and takes a page about one inch into the feeder, then the page got stuck there for about 15 seconds before going through unscanned. I would get a blank PDF afterward. I tried everything I could, short of taking it apart, without success.
Refund is not an option because 30 days passed. I have to call warranty service tomorrow and perhaps arrange a shipment and repair. This piece of work definitely wasted too much of my time.
Update March 8:
The first replacement did not work properly, having the same issues with document feeder and scanner. The LED touch pad does not respond when pressed COPY. I had to go online again to get customer support, which went through the same usual lengthy steps before sending me a second replacement.
The second replacement came in with the same issues if not worse. Again I had to go through the same lengthy communications with customer service before they decided to elevate my case to a supervisor.
The third replacement finally arrived after rounds of email exchange and phone calls. This one is different from the previous two replacements, which were refurbished. This one was new and actually worked!
Three months and three replacements (from November to February). Counting the time to ship and return and to troubleshoot, I did not even get to use the printer during this period. It is a complete waste of time. I would never buy this piece of garbage ever.
