Wing-blade FansOur Wing-blade fan design is cool and quiet with 105% greater static pressure over the heatsink compared to standard axial fans. Dust resistance seals the fan's internals from particle ingress to keeps things running smoothly. |
0dB Technology0dB technology allows fans to stop spinning when the GPU core temperature remains below 55 Celsius, letting you enjoy light gaming in complete silence. If temps rise, the fans automatically start up again. |
MaxContact TechnologyMaxContact is a technology that utilizes precision machining to create a heat spreader surface that makes up to 2X more contact with the GPU chip, resulting in improved thermal transfer. |

Reinforced FrameOur engineers have boosted the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2070's structural integrity by 3X with a metal brace that prevents excessive torsion and lateral bending of the PCB. |
GPU Tweak IIThe ASUS GPU Tweak II utility takes graphics card performance tuning and to the next level. It allows you to tweak critical parameters including GPU core clocks, memory frequency, voltage settings, and more with the option to monitor everything in real-time through a customizable on-screen display. From fine-grain performance tuning to advanced fan control, GPU Tweak II has all the tools you need to get the most out of your graphics card. |
Outshine the competitionThe ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2070 feature Aura RGB lighting on both the shroud and backplate. Get Aura Sync software to connect your compatible products for a completely customized gaming setup. You can sync to music, change color based on temperature, or select from a large number of patterns and static options, so make sure to look out for the Aura Sync logo when you're picking parts for your build. |
Precision Automated Manufacturing
All ROG Strix graphics cards are produced using Auto-Extreme Technology, an automated manufacturing process that sets new standards in the industry. Traditionally, soldering of through-hole and surface-mounted components needs to be performed in separate stages. Auto-Extreme Technology allows all soldering to be completed in a single pass, reducing thermal strain on components and avoiding the use of harsh cleaning chemicals. The end result is less environmental impact, lower manufacturing power consumption, and a more reliable product.
DirectX 12 Ultimate
DirectX 12 Ultimate is the version of the API for this generation of games. DirectX 12 Ultimate takes games to a level of realism with support for ray tracing, mesh shaders, variable rate shading, and sampler feedback. GeForce RTX is the PC platform with support for these game-changing features.

The performance of this card is in between a GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti. When overclocked, it is closer to a 1080 Ti. I find the performance to be pretty solid for lower refresh rate 4k gaming. I get about 55 fps in the Witcher 3 on ultra with all worthwhile settings maxed out. In Battlefield 5, I get about 70 fps with ray tracing off and 50 fps with ray tracing on medium. In Metro Exodus, I get about 50 fps with ray tracing off and 35-40 fps with ray tracing on. Ray tracing implementation is still pretty underwhelming, but you will get very solid performance at 1080p or 1440p with this card, even with ray tracing turned on.
The thermal performance of this card is fantastic, and I'm pretty sure no other RTX 2070 comes close to matching this thermal performance. This card has a huge triple-slot heatsink with three fans, and the heat spreader is ultra smooth thanks to Asus' max contact technology. My card usually hovers around 60 C under 100% load, and the fans are barely audible at these temps, even with the performance BIOS enabled (instead of the quiet BIOS). Since my case is right on my desk, I really appreciate how quiet this card is.
So far, I have only played around a little with overclocking. Nvidia's GPU boost already adjusts the clock speed on my card as high as 2050 mhz, but I can't keep it stable that high with a manual overclock. Also, don't use Asus' GPU Tweak II. It's absolutely terrible software. You have to downgrade your DirectX in order to install it. GPU tweak doesn't save your settings, it's buggy, and the on-screen display shows a huge ad for Asus graphics cards right over your game. It's one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
I was a little disappointed with the fan-side RGB illumination. There are actually just LEDs at either end of the card that light up a sort of fiber optic cable. The lighting is not very bright, and it's also not addressable, so the whole card can only display one color at a time. I may mod the card with some addressable LED strips behind the fiber optic cables.
Many of the other reviews mention artifacting, crashing, etc. I don't doubt that many people have had problems with this card, and with RTX cards in general, but I think the reviews here don't accurately reflect most people's experience. Asus Strix cards are known to be very reliable, and mine has worked perfectly for six weeks now.
I went for this upgrade when the Strix 2070 was on sale for $584 on Black Friday weekend. So far I have been completely happy with it, especially coming from a Strix 970. The 970 wasn't quite keeping up with the new 2560x1080 ultra-wide 144hz monitor I bought a few months ago. It has worked just fine with a 650w Gold PSU. Paired with a 4790k, Z97-A board, and 16 GB of DDR3 RAM (yeah, more upgrades are due in the future).
The card came completely new in it's original sealed box and has been working flawlessly since installing it (No issues with a used card or tampered packaging). Performance has been about what I was expecting with about a 1.8x-2x jump/improvement over the 970. Witcher 3 Ultra/Max was seeing 120-130 fps in most places outside of the cities and 90-100 fps in larger cities. FFXV Ultra/Max with TRAM set to High was seeing 80-100 fps depending on how many enemies/people were around. I haven't had the chance to test many other games yet though (too busy with work right now). Running the GPU User Benchmark test while overclocked to +100 core and +300 memory results in usually a 140% - 141% rating which isn't bad compared to the average of 133%.
Cooling is typical from what I'd expect from a Strix card. I haven't yet seen it cross over 68-70 degrees on games before the fans spool up (quietly; they're not noticeable to me with the sound from games) and cool everything back off to the 55-60-ish range. I setup the Asus Aura RGB software and have it set to cycle through all colors which gives a cool 'glow' to the entire case. I'm not a super hardcore gamer, a miner or a graphic designer so I was mainly looking for an upgrade that would simply 'keep up' with any game I try to play with between high and max settings while being future proof for at least 2 more years... and you never really know where ray-tracing or DLSS may be going in the future, so that's a 'nice to have' feature for now.
tl;dr: Upgrading from a 3.5+ year old Strix 970 was 100% worth it for ultra-wide 1080p 144hz gaming. If I were on anything higher than a 970, I most likely would have skipped out on the 2070 until prices dropped down.

-- Learning navigation, especially new solo pilots and into new airports or areas, in a simulation is time well spent. The better prepared you are the safer it is for everyone flying.
-- Personal Computer technologies are likely to be on a faster churn over the next few years (2020-2025) so this card will likely be eclipsed very quickly for less money. Hold out as long as you can. Pilot simulation training forced me to upgrade.

Amazon
